Skylar Renslow

Traveler // Writer // Photographer

I'm Skylar — writer, photographer, and what I've started calling a professional interloper.

I didn’t grow up traveling. In my early days, the world was only attainable through books, magazines, and movies - but I had dreams of escape. After paying off my student loans, I made a promise to myself that I’d book the first cheap flight abroad that I could find. A few months later, I was off to Belgrade, Serbia. My few steps on foreign soil smelled of cigarettes, tasted like burek, and burned like rakia. It also felt like home. Not Serbia necessarily, though I fell in love with that part of the world, but the feeling of being an outsider. I think it’s because I’ve never felt like I belonged, not quite fitting in, always the interloper. Quite literally being not from somewhere was comforting, and I haven’t stopped traveling since.

We bring our baggage with us when we travel, which means I’m the kind of person that doesn’t fall into a niche. I enjoy a white tablecloth affair just as much as a dusty plastic chair. A dry gin martini or an ice cold lager on the side of the road. Waking up in the mountains or in a dense, walkable city. Satire and earnestness. All that to say, my writing and photography will run the gamut.

If that sounds like you then we’ll probably get along just fine.
